About the scheme

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a government initiative in the UK that provides financial support to businesses for the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at their workplaces.

How the scheme works

The scheme offers a grant of up to 75% of the cost of purchasing and installing eligible EV charge points, up to a maximum of £350 per socket, and a maximum of 40 sockets per business.

The WCS is open to all businesses, charities, and public sector organizations that meet the applicant and site eligibility criteria.

How to apply

1. Check the eligibility criteria: Before applying, businesses should ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria for the WCS. The criteria include having dedicated off-street parking, employing at least one person, and not having already received the maximum grant allowance.

2. Choose an OZEV-approved installer: The business must choose an OZEV-approved installer to carry out the installation of the EV charge points. A list of approved installers can be found on the OZEV website.

3. Register on the WCS online portal: The business must register on the WCS online portal and provide details about their business, the proposed installation site, and the chosen installer.

4. Provide supporting documents: The business must provide supporting documents, including proof of ownership or lease of the installation site, planning permission, and any necessary consents from landlords or tenants.

5. Wait for approval: Once the application is submitted, it will be reviewed by OZEV. If approved, the business will receive a grant offer letter outlining the grant amount and conditions.

6. Install the EV charge points: The business must ensure that the installation is carried out by the approved installer and complies with all relevant regulations and requirements.

7. Claim the grant: Once the installation is complete, the business can claim the grant through the WCS online portal by providing evidence of the installation and payment of the approved installer.

Installer responsibilities

Only OZEV-authorised commercial chargepoint installers can claim the grant on behalf of the applicant.
